Happy National Homeownership Month from The Title Resource Network!
June is National Homeownership Month! While the market may present its challenges, the dream of homeownership remains a cornerstone of the American Dream, inspiring buyers. For Realtors, lenders and, yes, even title companies, this month presents the perfect opportunity to highlight the rewards of finding a place to call your own - and everything we do to help you get there.
So, that’s exactly what your team from across The Title Resource Network is doing. Here’s where we remind you that the professionals across the TRN family can handle your title, abstracting and settlement needs across the region with an elevated level of professionalism and care.
According to a recent Bankrate survey, 82% of Americans still view owning a home as a key life goal. That includes 74% of millennials and 78% of Gen Z. Couple that with data from last year that showed 9 out of 10 recent buyers say homeownership makes them happy. Furthermore, 7 out of 10 renters claim that owning their own place would raise their quality of life, and it’s clear: the homeownership dream is alive and well, with benefits that extend far beyond finances.
So, why does homeownership matter to so many Americans, whether they currently own or still rent? Here are three key reasons:
It’s a good financial move. Homeownership helps build long-term wealth. Unlike rent, which goes to a landlord, mortgage payments build equity—and a home's value typically appreciates over time. Homeowners can tap into this equity for future needs like retirement, emergencies, or education.
It provides more freedom. Owning your place means having the freedom to make it truly yours, whether that's choosing paint colors, renovating a kitchen, or creating a garden oasis. But it also means greater stability, especially for families looking to plant roots in schools and neighborhoods. That sense of permanence contributes to emotional well-being and peace of mind.
It encourages you to grow with your community. Homeowners usually invest more time and energy into the world around them. Why? Homeownership fosters a deeper sense of responsibility and pride, helping build stronger, safer, and more connected neighborhoods.
For those of you hoping to secure part of the American dream this summer, we have some advice.
● Learn more about down payments. One of the surveys cited concerns about saving for a down payment as one of the main obstacles to buying a home. Know that you don’t need 20% for one, but saving up to buy a home is important. A trusted loan officer can help you get things in order and determine how much you need to save to achieve your dreams.
● Don’t forget to budget for repairs and maintenance. Even new homeowners who are happy are often shocked by how much it costs simply to keep a house in working order. Don’t fall into this group. Besides money for repairs and projects, you’ll also have to plan for insurance, utility bills, taxes, etc.
